GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN … on the way there you will take in an excellent view of the Vancouver Skyline, get a close up view of large ocean going freighters anchored in English Bay awaiting their turn to unload their cargo and take in the vistas of Vancouver’s local mountains, Seymore Mountain, Grouse Mountain and Cypress Mountain which played home to several Vancouver Whistler 2010 Winter Olympic events. As the ferry rounds the Cypress Mountain along the shores of West Vancouver is Point Atkinson and a Vancouver landmark lighthouse followed by the cliffs of lighthouse park. Entering the mouth of Howe Sound which stretches up to the city of Squamish you can view the magnificent mountains which lining the Sea to Sky Highway all the way to Whistler, BC.

Bowen Island is a quaint and somewhat sleepy, artistic community which over the past decade has attracted commuters to take up residence. Although you would never now it from visiting the Bowen Island Village at Snug Cove or the nearby beach, Bowen Island is home to over 5,000 residents. The island has a very laid back feel and maintains its hippy charm.

Upon debarking in Snug Cove stroll a hundred or two hundred meters past the municipal hall and visit local shops and restaurants.

Walk or cycle from here up the hill to an modern log cabin style mall area with artists shops and a couple of restaurants with seating that looks out over breathtaking views of Howe Sound at the mountains beyond.

The patio setting at Doc Morgan’s Pub & Restaurant is a relaxing place to enjoy fish and chips with a cold beverage and take in the view of the mountainous island surroundings along with the Snug Cove Marina.

Killarney Lake, accessed from the other side of the road up to the shopping mall, is a favourite of hikers who enjoy the easy hike around its shores through lush vegetation among majestic Douglas Fir and ancient cedar trees.
